About
A Caring Doula
At A Caring Doula, we believe every family deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Our approach blends preparation, advocacy, and compassionate care so you can move through your birth journey with clarity, confidence, and steady support.
Our Values & Beliefs
Every Labor is a 'Natural' Labor
There is no single “right” way to give birth. Whether your labor is unmedicated, medically supported, at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital, you deserve care that respects your choices and supports your experience every step of the way.
Knowledge is Power
Birth can come with a lot of unknowns. We believe families deserve clear, honest information throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum so they can understand their options and make decisions with confidence.
You Are an Active Part of Your Birth
Birth isn’t something that simply happens to you. It’s a powerful process you are moving through with intention and strength. Our role is to help you feel prepared, informed, and confident so you can take an active role in your birth experience.
Meet Our Founder, TaKiesha Smith
The heart behind A Caring Doula, TaKiesha Smith is a DONA-certified doula, educator, and maternal health advocate dedicated to helping families feel prepared, supported, and empowered throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Her journey into birthwork began early while earning her CNA and interning at a birthing center, where she discovered a passion for supporting families during one of life’s most important moments. After years in education, she formally entered the birth space during the pandemic and quickly became known for her calm presence, practical preparation, and strong advocacy for families.
As a Black mother who experienced a traumatic near-miss birth, TaKiesha is deeply committed to improving maternal health outcomes and ensuring families—especially those historically underserved—receive respectful, informed care.
In addition to supporting families through A Caring Doula, she serves on the Board of the Indiana Breastfeeding Coalition and is the Indiana State Ambassador for Count the Kicks, a national initiative focused on stillbirth prevention and maternal health education.
